I personally know of 7 people under the age of 30 that have died due to over dosing on perscription drugs.  I know several people still on them and have watched there lives go into ruins, not to mention what they put family and freinds through.  It is time to put a stop to the easy acces to these perscriptions before we lose more potentially brilliant citizens.

Doctors, individuals, teachers, and most importantly pharmaceutical companies need to be educated and aware of the severity of how these painkillers are being abused leading to needless deaths and overdoses. Painkillers are underestimated DUE to the fact that they are prescribed. The lack of education about the severity of these pills and the stereotype that because they are a "prescribed" drug.. its not as bad as crack or heroin. WAKE UP CONGRESS! WAKE UP AMERICA! Since 2001, scores of Federal hearings have been held about the deaths, and addictions that have increased year, after year.  Scores of expert physicians have testified to these agencies,  that a critical solution to the rising number of casualties lies in the “re-education” and proper training of physicians who have a license to prescribe narcotics.  Yet the deaths and addictions continued to rise.  We now have a public health crisis.  We have an epidemic. Yet, the solution has always been known.  This must STOP.  Patients have a right to good pain management, BUT this should never be at the expense of the general public welfare.

Please help end the death and addiction from prescription narcotics.  Thousands die each year in our two countries, and thousands more will continue to die each year until we do something to stop it.  It is not about restricting pain meds from those who truly need them, it is about offering appropriate care for those with pain while protecting our loved ones from a deadly scourge that has not been effectively addressed by our governments.  The statistics don't lie: deaths track sales from opioids.

I lost my son, Levi, 5 years ago to oxycontin withdrawals.  They were prescribed, he ran out due to a PCA stealing and selling them on the street.  Please get this off of the market.  It has accidentally killed so many young people.  I want my son back, and that will never happen.

We had this same problem back in the early 1900's but it was called by its real name HERION. Our forfathers saw quickly the damage it was causing and quickly pulled it. Why does Purdue Pharm think they can bring it back 100 years later with a different name OXYCOTIN and not have the same effect on people... I have read all of the stories below and I just have such a sick feeling in my stomach. My heart aches for all of you! My son is 24 and this problem has caused so much pain in our entire family. I'm not exactly sure where and when is addiction really started but have known about it for atleast 5 years to date. I knew something wasnt right with him because of the way he was acting. I would go to hug him and he would pull away from me like I was the plague, this was not my son because he always hugged and kissed me! Hedidn't sleep all night, he was so distant. I could go on and on and Ijust get more upset the more I sit here and think about it. My son had a $200 day addiction, sold anything that was of any value, started stealing from his dad and his dads friends. We thought we had him all straightened out, I had him under close observation, totally moved him away from the town he lived in so he was no longer around the people he was getting the OXY from. we convinced him to join the military, well, he did and it only lasted 6 months before he decided to basically go AWOL. I now have had him in a long term treatment facility where he has been since June 2010. He graduated from that 8 month program and is on to the next part of the program which will be 18 months. Whatever it takes to keep him away from the drugs, I will do. I am angry, I cry, I am sick at what this has done to my sone and his possibilites for a happy successful life. I continue to pray everyday that he will have the strength to beat this demon! For all of you out there, no who your friends are hanging with, no their families, snoop, do whatever you have to so that you will know what is going on with your child or children and I pray to god that noone will ever have to go through what we parents, husbands, wives, siblings have had to go through with drug addiction. We need to get these drugs off the streets and get these Dr.s and pain clinics in control, because it is out of control! A very Concerned Parent

Dear President Obama, Prime Minister Harper, Members of U.S. Congress, and Canadian Parliament,

Please help us force the manufacturers of Oxycodone and all other prescription opioids to stop distributing their killer pills so deliberately throughout the U.S. and the world. Particularly to Florida where we are known as the Capital of the Oxys'personally suffered through one of our own, it is not just the addict who suffers but dozens of family, friends and acquaintances who must suffer the consequences of this terrible drug.

Stop the proliferation of the Pill Mills, Pain Clinics and all of the second and third rate "Doctors" who have failed miserably to their "Hippocratic Oath" but are instead enriching themselves on the Blood of our children and families. Most of all, their own lives.

I pray for you and your families, that you may never get that call in the middle of the night telling you "We have your son/daughter, in jail for narcotics....."

Or even worse, "We have your son/daughter in the county morgue, please come to identify their remains!"
